Meet Coach Ellison: 2013 BC Grassroots Coach of the Year winner

Coaches ViaSport is pleased to announce the first of two outstanding individuals who have been selected as recipients of the 2013 B.C. Coach of the Year Awards, supported by the Bob Bearpark Foundation.

Coach Glen Ellison is the 2013 recipient of the Recreational/Grassroots BC Coach of the Year Award for his outstanding coaching achievements in grassroots coaching and his unique contribution to the advancement and well-being of athletes and their sports over a number of years.

Glen has been a coach with Richmond Special Olympics for more than 30 years. He has coached floor hockey, basketball, soccer and softball and has helped out and assisted with almost every Special Olympics sport.

As a head coach, Glen takes the time to get to know his athletes and incorporates activities into practices that are individualized to their needs, creating opportunities for them to excel. He encourages sportsmanship and values of acceptance and respect. Glen makes each practice fun and motivating for the athletes which in turn inspires them to work hard.

Not only is he a coach but he has also puts in countless hours as a tournament organizer, mentor and leader in the local community. Athletes and fellow coaches look up to him as a role model.

Glen will be presented with the award by Tom Jones, representing the Bob Bearpark foundation at a special VIP ceremony preceding this year’s BC Sports Hall of Fame Banquet of Champions on Thursday, September 25.
